Did you know many of our local families serve or have served right here on Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Airstation Cherry Point? We are so proud of them! We thank all Veterans and are incredibly grateful for their service to our country.

It’s beach-themed, and Silkies are encouraged to be worn under clothes for photos! There will be food buffet style, a cash bar, and a group photo opportunity, so come have a good time and support our Veterans! *movie includes material that may be unsuitable for some viewers.

Spend Thanksgiving morning the right way, with family in costume, enjoying a morning walk, run, or strut 5K! The GYM Cape Carteret Aquatic Center hosts the Turkey Trot, a great way to get the family active with family fun. Did I mention you could win a pumpkin pie for the best-dressed flock? There are also more categories to win, but the prizes are all, you guessed it, pumpkin pies! Grab the turkeys, I mean family, and burn some extra calories on Thanksgiving morning. Hosted by Chasin’ Tails Outdoors, this tournament’s proceeds will go to two local treatment centers, The Miriam and Hope Recovery Homes, to provide shelter, education, and support for people seeking recovery in Carteret County.

Many don’t consider a healthy mind, healthy body while vacationing, but similar to living at the beach, health and wellness are imperative any time of year. Wellness at the beach, especially on the North Carolina Coast, may come a lot easier than you think.
When it comes to our overall well-being, we often focus on physical fitness and nutrition, but we tend to overlook the importance of our mental health. Taking care of your mind is just as important as caring for your body. In fact, they go hand in hand. One of the best ways to improve your mental and physical health is the healing power of the beach. From reducing stress to enhancing your immune system, here’s why the beach should be part of your wellness toolkit.
Healthy Mind, Healthy Body at the Beach
There are many benefits that the beach offers in terms of wellness. We’re going to share them with you so you can feel empowered about your time spent by the ocean.
Stress Relief
The sand, sun, and sea come together to create the perfect environment for relaxation. The sound of the waves alone can calm your mind and help you let go of daily stressors. Being in a natural environment can also boost your mood and increase feelings of well-being.
Exercise and Movement
Physical activity is essential for maintaining a healthy mind and body. The beach provides a variety of ways to stay active, from walking or jogging on the shoreline to swimming in the water. The unevenness of the sand also adds an extra challenge to your workout routine, helping to improve balance, stability, and overall fitness.
Vitamin D
Sun exposure is a natural source of Vitamin D, a vitamin that is crucial for strong bones and overall health. Spending time at the beach is an excellent way to get your dose of Vitamin D. But, be sure to be responsible and protect your skin from the harmful effects of sun exposure by wearing sunscreen and staying in the shade during peak hours.
Relaxation and Sleeping Patterns
Exposure to sunlight during the daytime hours can help regulate our circadian rhythm, which is our body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. This means that spending time at the beach can help improve the quality of your sleep. With better sleep, you’ll feel more rested and alert, further improving your mental and physical well-being.
Even being around the salty breeze can improve wellness. (Image from The Ocean Club)
Boosting Immunity
The beach is a natural environment that is rich in minerals, such as magnesium, potassium, and iodine, among others. These minerals play an essential role in boosting our immune system and protecting our bodies from disease and illness.
Taking a Vacation at the Beach
Whether you live at the beach or want to get to the beach for a vacation, the time by the beach is great for a healthy lifestyle. Having an exercise program integrated into your life is great for overall wellness, but when you are on vacation, the many healing properties of the ocean are a byproduct of your relaxation time.Â
Finding Wellness in the Sand and Sun
Here are 7 ways you can stay on top of your wellness game while you are at the beach.
Weight Loss by the Waves: Forget the stuffy office and treadmill routines. The beach offers natural resistance for a great workout. Take a jog along the shoreline or try some beach yoga to shed those extra pounds. Walking in water creates resistance that your body may not be accustomed to. You can check out our events calendar for beach yoga on the Crystal Coast.
Fueling with a Healthy Diet: Swap the office snacks for fresh beach-side treats. Think fruits, veggies, and maybe some grilled fish. Your body will thank you. You can access local farmers’ markets like the Olde Beaufort Farmers’ Market when in season.
Family Wellness Retreat: Bonding time with family is a breeze at the beach. Build sandcastles, play beach volleyball, or simply go for a family swim. It’s a win-win for wellness and quality time. It’s a great idea for a family reunion!
Mind-Body Connection: The sound of crashing waves and the feel of warm sand beneath your toes can work wonders for your mind-body connection. Meditate or just unwind with a good book while soaking up the beachy zen.
Medical Break: Sometimes, a break from the daily grind is the best medicine. The beach offers a therapeutic escape from the hustle and bustle of the office and daily stresses.
Infectious Disease Defense: A beach holiday can also help you unwind and de-stress, which is known to boost your immune system and keep infectious diseases at bay.
Taking Control of Your Well-being: At the beach, you’re in control of your schedule. Take advantage of it! Whether it’s a morning jog or an evening swim, the beach lets you decide how to prioritize your wellness. Being by the sea has healing properties that have also been proven to reduce blood pressure.
Incorporating the healing power of the beach into your daily routine is an excellent way to promote overall mental and physical wellness. Whether it’s a morning run or an evening swim, spending time at the beach offers countless benefits that can help improve your quality of life. So next time you’re looking for a natural way to soothe your mind and body, head to the beach and let Mother Nature work her magic.

Wellness at the Beach: Healthy Mind Healthy Body on the NC Coast
/in Vacation Rental /by Jason SwainMany don’t consider a healthy mind, healthy body while vacationing, but similar to living at the beach, health and wellness are imperative any time of year.

For prospective buyers, understanding the lending options available is paramount. In Carteret County, FHA (Federal Housing Administration) and VA (Veterans Affairs) loans continue to be attractive options.
FHA loans are a popular choice for first-time homebuyers due to their low down payment requirements, typically as low as 3.5%. Additionally, FHA loans often offer competitive interest rates, making homeownership more accessible. VA loans are also an excellent option for eligible veterans and active-duty service members. These loans require no down payment, making them a fantastic opportunity for those who have served our country. VA loans also offer competitive interest rates and do not require private mortgage insurance (PMI).
As we move further into 2023, these lending options remain favorable, providing opportunities for a wide range of buyers to enter the Carteret County real estate market.
Bottom Line
In conclusion, the Carteret County real estate market has shown resilience and promise, with rising property values and competitive market conditions. While the market has cooled just a touch for some price points, statistics show that 2nd home beach markets remain strong. For those looking to buy, FHA and VA loans offer accessible and advantageous lending options.
