BURN YOUR SOCKS ON THE EQUINOX

March 20,2022 – Time: 4 PM – 7 PM

2361 Lennoxville Rd | Beaufort

Price: $30

In the mid-1980s at a boatyard in Annapolis, MD., Captain Bob Turner wore socks all during the long, cold winter months while working on OPB’s (Other People’s Boats). By winter’s end, his socks were stand-up stiff with sawdust, caulk, and bottom paint. ON the first day of spring, Capt. Bob placed his leavings-laden socks in a paint tray, doused them with lighter fluid, set them on fire, and then drank beer to celebrate. And so the spring tradition of sock burning began and it has grown to coastal communities across the country. Come join us and celebrate the age-old maritime tradition of burning your socks on the spring solstice. Enjoy food, brew, and music. Tickets are $30. Bring a pair of old socks to burn. Bring a pair of new socks to donate

Mardi Gras on Middle Lane 2022

February 26, 2022 – Time: 2 PM – 6 PM

Downtown Historic Beaufort

The sounds of New Orleans and succulent Creole cuisine will be coming to Beaufort as part of “Mardi Gras on Middle Lane.” It’s the celebration of food, drink, music, and, of course, the parade. Beaufort’s annual Mardi Gras celebration is set for Saturday, February 26, 2022. The event starts at 2 pm and runs until 6 pm but you’ll want to get there early.

The Mardi Gras highlight, of which, is arguably the shortest parade in North Carolina. It’s a true display of Beaufort’s quirkiness. The parade of “krewes” in costume tossing jewelry and charms is not to be missed.

The Sweet Potato Queens always seem to steal the show! The group of women, aged 40-70, all dress in elaborate costumes and perform choreographed routines.

The parade starts at 3 pm sharp and may be finished by 3:15 pm.
