On Friday, December 7th, the North Carolina Department of Transportation will start construction on the repairs of the Cameron B Langston Bridge that connects Cape Carteret to Emerald Isle. There will be structural improvements made to the underside of the concrete bridge, and new guardrails will be installed as well. The existing 28 inch concrete sidewalls will topped by a 26 inch steel railing structure, making safety a precedent- but photo opportunities a little more difficult for passengers crossing the Intracoastal Waterway during peak sunset times. The new look will closely resemble the bridge Morehead City to Atlantic Beach. Travelers should expect delays and keep an eye out for flagmen & women due to a one-lane only scenario for the next few months, as completion is scheduled near the end of March.
