42nd ANNUAL NEWPORT PIG COOKING CONTEST

April 1 & 2, 2022 – Time: 9 AM – 6 PM

Newport Community Park | 200 Howard Blvd | Newport

Mayor Garner was one of the first to help get the Newport Pig Cookin Contest going. It started as a fundraiser for the Newport Developmental Center to raise money for needs they had at the time.  41 years later the Pig Cookin has grown into the Largest all Volunteer  Non-Profit  Pig Cookin in the USA.  In 2019 we will have given over one million dollars back to different charities.

CARNIVAL TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE

April 2, 2002- Time: 11 AM – 4 PM

NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shore | 1 Roosevelt Drive | Pine Knoll Shores

The Carnival to Combat Climate Change on April 2 will combine conservation, science, and fun during the first-ever event at N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. Youth leaders at the Aquarium are hoping the carnival will provide a space for all ages to discuss environmental issues.  This free event will be held outside in the Aquarium parking lot 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Leaders in science and conservation from across the state will be stationed at booths, ready to talk about climate change and how individuals can help lessen its effects on coastal communities. Enjoy hands-on activities and carnival games throughout the day. Brant Island Strings of Arapahoe will play live music from noon to 2 p.m.
 

A TOAST TO THE WEDDING VIEL WITH KRISTY WOODSON HARVEY

April 7, 2002- Time: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

The Wedding Veil brings to vivid life a group of remarkable women forging their own paths—and explores the mystery of a national heirloom lost to time. Enjoy an evening with Kristy Woodson Harvey as she discusses the why and reads a selection from the book. After which there will also be time for a Q&A session and book signing.

EASTER BUNNY AND A MOVIE

Preschoolers (ages 2-5) and their caregivers participate in a maritime-themed hands-on experience, craft, and activity during this program, which is offered every second Wednesday. Topics rotate between pirates, sharks, whales, and fish with a focus on both experience and exposure. Each program is 45-60 minutes long. Caregivers are asked to stay for the entire program.


OCEAN INFANTS

Children ages seven and younger are welcome to join the fun. This annual event features prizes, refreshments, and over 2,000 eggs. It’s all free – just bring a basket! ADULTS ONLY TOUR

April 22, 2002- Time: 6 PM – 7 PM

Join Associate Education Curator for a selection of maritime stories she’d never tell before 5 p.m.

This program is rated R due to language, alcohol, and explicit content. Participants must be 21 years of age or older to attend. Laugh, drink, and learn during this hour-long alternative museum tour designed for adults only (ages 21+). Enjoy your beverage as you learn about some lesser told stories related to maritime history ranging from topics of love, maritime art subjects, and love diseases.

Select flavored moonshines (depending on availability) and soft drinks will be served.

Complimentary souvenir cup included. Discussion topics will include nudity in maritime art, alcohol and drug smuggling on the ocean, STDs among sailors, and more.

This event is designed to be a fun and different look at both the NC Maritime Museum and the history it interprets, documents, and promotes.

Cost includes tour, moonshine, and souvenir cup.


PUBLICK DAY

April 23, 2022 – Time: 9 AM – 4 PM

Beaufort Historic Site | 130 Turner Street | Beaufort

An old-fashioned flea market on the Beaufort Historic Site with vendors selling antiques and collectibles, art, crafts, handmade jewelry, books, food, and more. No admission charge. Tour the sturgeon farm, taste the caviar, and enjoy friendly conversation with the staff. Products will be available for purchase.

The event will include:
• An in-depth tour of the indoor R.A.S. sturgeon farm
• Caviar tasting with Social House Vodka
• Sampling of smoked sturgeon products & more
• Opportunity to speak to staff and purchase Marshallberg Farm products.
 
To maximize your experience, each tour is limited to 20 guests.

14TH ANNUAL REELIN FOR RESEARCH FISHING TOURNAMENT

April 30, 2022- Time: 7 AM – 8 PM

Reelin’ for Research is a year-round fundraising effort benefiting the UNC Children’s Hospital and childhood cancer research. It culminates each year with a one-day fishing tournament in Morehead City, NC. To date, over 4.4 million dollars have been raised to help LAND A CURE for childhood cancer!
