The North Carolina’s Crystal Coast has family friendly events and lots of things to do in the Spring and Summer leading into the Fall and early Winter. 2019 Resolution Run 1 Mile & 5K

Date: January 1, 2019

Location: 411 Front Street, Beaufort, NC

Get your 2019 resolutions in gear first thing on the first! Join our 1 mile or 5k run and get ahead of the curve this new year. The race travels down Front Street in beautiful downtown Beaufort, starting at the corner of Turner and Front streets. Registration is $15 online or $20 day of the race.

Penguin Plunge 2019

Location: Atlantic Beach, NC

Ring in the New Year taking a dip in the Ocean and help raise money for local charity. Takes place at the circle in Atlantic Beach.

First Day Hike 2019

Date: January 1, 2019

Time: 2 PM – 4 PM

Location: 2303 E Fort Macon Rd, Atlantic Beach, NC

Start the new year off right with a hike in your favorite state park.  Fort Macon will be offering two ranger led hikes this year, both starting from the Visitor Center at 2pm. One will be a short nature hike on the Yarrow’s Loop Trail and inlet beach covering about 3/4 of a mile. The second hike will be along the 3.2 mile Elliot Caues Trail.

Musket Firing Demonstration

Glow in the Dark Capture the Flag

Teens! Come out for this free event. Love the classic outdoor game Capture the Flag? Imagine playing it with glow in the dark lights. Bring a friend or two and join in on the fun. This is an event for ages 12-16. This is a free event, but waiver by guardian is required.

Down East Folk Arts Society presents Tom Kimmel in MHC

The Down East Folk Arts Society will once again bring World Class Singer/Songwriters to the Crystal Coast with a 2019 Winter Concert Series beginning in January and running through March.

Singer, songwriter, entertainer, poet and teacher, Tom Kimmel is all of these things and more. Since 1980 dozens of Tom’s compositions have been recorded by a host of major artists, including Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Cash, Joe Cocker and Randy Travis. They’ve been featured in films from Twins to Serendipity and Runaway Bride, and in television shows from Miami Vice to Touched By An Angel. Once an eclectic artist in his own right, he has released seven solo albums, published a book of poems and led songwriting workshops and classes across the US and in Europe.

8th Annual Clam Chowder Cook-off

Four guest clam chowder cooks will compete at the Harvey W. Smith Watercraft Center. Participants enjoy a tasting-sized portion of each of the four chowders and then vote for their favorite. In addition to clam chowder, the event will host a cornbread taste-off. Escoffier Chef Dinner Series – Chef Charles Park

16th Annual Carolina Chocolate Festival

The annual Carolina Chocolate Festival takes place at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City and is packed with activities from tastings, demonstrations and bake-offs to golfing and relaxing at the spa. Sleepover at the Aquarium

Date: February 2-3, 2019

Location: 1 Roosevelt Blvd, Pine Knoll Shores, NC

Sleep with the Fishes! Spend a night with the fish at the Aquarium. Roll out your sleeping bag or air mattress in front of our 306,000-gallon Living Shipwreck exhibit as sharks, eels and sea turtles swim close to party goers. Participants learn about the Aquarium’s magnificent animals and design their very own t-shirt to take home. Food, instruction, movies and craft supplies are provided. In the morning, participants enjoy breakfast and tour the Aquarium before it opens to the public. This event is recommended for 5 years and up. Caviar Farm Tour & Tasting

That’s right, there’s a caviar farm right here in Carteret County!

Marshallberg Farm is the largest producer of Russian Sturgeon caviar in the U.S.A., with capacity to produce up to 3 tons of caviar per year. Due to popular demand, the Down East facility will be holding a series of farm tours and caviar tastings.

The tour includes a guided walk amongst 40 indoor recirculating aquaculture tanks that teem with sturgeon and span some 54,000 square feet of building space. Following the tour, there will be a caviar and smoked sturgeon tasting and a chance to purchase products.

16th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon

Empty Bowls fundraiser luncheon:  11 to 1, Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Crystal Coast Civic Center, Morehead City, NC to raise money for Hope Mission of Carteret County, (Soup kitchen) and they share proceeds with Martha’s Mission Cupboard food pantry. The $20 tickets are available at Hope Mission now at 252-240-2359.

Ticket holders may choose a handmade pottery creation & two soups. There will be a silent auction too. In January, tickets will also be sold at Pet Provisions on Turner St., Beaufort; Webb Memorial Library, 9th & Evans, Morehead City; & Cape Carteret Aquatic Center on Taylor Notion Road. Early ticket purchases are recommended.

Escoffier Chef Dinner Series 2019

International Film Series 2019

We are back at it this year with four new films from four new countries. Join us for a wonderful catered dinner and inspired by the featured movie’s country. After dinner stroll over to Joslyn Hall for popcorn and the movie!

This is an annual event that occurs once a month during January, February and March that includes dinner with each movie one night.  The series includes three movies, one per month January – March.  Menu for each dinner will reflect the country in which the movie is from.

Hurricane Florence Property Damage Relief Roundtable Workshop

Date: Saturday February 23, 2019

Time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Location: 7500 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle, NC (Old Town Hall Board Room, Adjacent to EIPD)

Bluewater Real Estate and Lynn Anderson of Stearns Lending will be hosting a Hurricane Relief Workshop on Saturday, February 23rd at the Emerald Isle Old Town Hall Board Room starting at 9 AM. The session is open to the public and anyone still suffering from the lasting impacts of property damage related to Hurricane Florence is encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

Lynn Anderson & Linda Rice, from Stearns Lending will be discussing options for renovation loans on homes that have been damaged by the storm. She also has a few options for homes that have been gutted if sellers are wanting to sell them as-is.
