Mullet Festival

Don’t miss the Swansboro Mullet Festival happening every Fall in Swansboro, North Carolina.

The Mullet Festival is the oldest festival on the Crystal Coast and revolves around the mullet fish found in local Eastern North Carolina waters. Mullets were often hauled to shore in large nets hooked to tractors along the beach. In 1954, the small fish fed the workers building the White Oak River Bridge that connects Onslow and Carteret counties. After construction was completed, the Mullet Festival began in 1958 to celebrate the new bridge. The festival started as a potluck-type event with Swansboro natives coming together and adding to the celebration. It has now grown to a successful two-day event in the quaint downtown, overlooking the beautiful waterfront.
