Forget Black Friday and Cyber Monday – Shop Local

This Saturday, November 28th, is Shop Local Saturday – or, as we have all have grown to know it, “Black Friday”, the day after Thanksgiving, when we spend quality time with family and friends around the table and then later rush out the door in the wee hours of the morning.

Raise your hand if you’ve been known to get in long lines at the nearest chain retailer to snag those special doorbuster deals or big-ticket items you’ve been holding off on purchasing.

In previous years,  this day has encroached on Thanksgiving Day, forcing us out the door before the turkey even gets cold. Keeping us from the memories we could be making with family and friends. To add to this frenzy is Cyber Monday, which allows for similar deals all by shopping from the comfort of your home. Can we please find a good middle ground?  YES, finally!

This Saturday, November 28th is Shop Local Saturday. While both Black Friday and Cyber Monday are exciting and can be helpful toward acquiring the perfect gift for all your loved ones, do your community a favor and shop local. Shop at your local small businesses, and help support the mom and pop shops. Spend your money where you live, work, and play.

While you’re out and about, don’t forget to grab a bite to eat at one of your favorite local eateries – preferably one that isn’t a chain restaurant.  Get out and wander into that shop you’ve been meaning to check out. And don’t forget, most of your local small businesses will also have great sales.

There are so many treasures for you to discover this holiday season, and most of them are right in your very own town, in small business owners’ shops.
