Cherry Point hosts one of the Marine Corps’ most important air stations as well as beautiful coastal scenery and a hub of city life. There many stories of how the area got its name, though most popular is that it was adopted from an old post office used by lumber workers in the early 1900s. The "point" was just east of Hancock Creek and “cherry” came from the many cherry trees that grew in the area. Read more about Cherry Point.
